Business leaders to address media on H.B. 2246

September 20, 2010

HARRISBURG, PA – Representatives of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry and numerous other business, health-care and insurance organizations will be available to speak with the media about collective concerns with legislation (H.B. 2246) that would allow lawyers in auto-related civil cases to suggest specific amounts for non-economic damages (pain and suffering) in closing arguments.

The media availability will be held outside of Hearing Room 1, North Office Building, at the conclusion of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee meeting, to be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21.

House Bill 2246 is an attempt to drive up jury awards in automobile civil cases, and would increase auto insurance rates by 5 percent to 10 percent, and possibly higher.
